USA Today reports that amidst the chic bustle of Paris Fashion Week, a celebratory but somber moment was taken by a star studded cast of characters to honor Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld, who died earlier this year, was a German designer best known for his work as creative director at Chanel and Fendi.
The memorial was held at the Grand Palais, and was titled “Karl for Ever.” A ridiculously famous cast of characters were in attendance, including model Gigi Hadid, designer Stella McC artney, Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, French first lady Brigette Macron, musician Pharell Williams and actress Helen Mirren.
The event included readings from Lagerfeld’s biography by Mirren and a performance of his song ‘Gust of Wind’ by Williams.
Lagerfeld came under fire often throughout his career. His comments deriding women’s weight and glamorizing dangerously thin models were met with significant outcry, as were his remarks on the usefulness of the Holocaust. None of that seemed to matter at the celebration.
