According to CNBC, an Aston Martin DB5, made famous for its role as James Bond’s car, sold at $6.4 million at a Pebble Beach car auction. The car was used to advertise 1965’s Sean Connery starring Thunderball.
The DB5 was formerly on display in the Smokey Mountain Car Museum, but was recently put up for public sale. According to CNBC’s post, the car features “theatrical front and rear hydraulic over-rider rams on the bumpers, a Browning .30 Caliber machine gun in each fender, wheel-hub mounted tire-shredders” among other tools used by the famous movie spy like then futuristic car telephone.
As is occasionally their practice with big ticket items, Sotheby’s has refused to give the identity of the buyer. The car outdid its estimated sell price of between $4 to $6 million, and will surely be enjoyed by its secret new owner.
