Another billionaire, another record setting NYC property acquisition. According to The New York Times, Uber Co-Founder and ex-CEO Travis Kalanick purchased one of two penthouse condos at the newly opened 565 Broome Street for $36.5 million, the most expensive real estate purchase in the city for the month of August.
The Times reports that the penthouse features four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, a dining room and living room and spacious kitchen in its 6,734 square foot space. The master bedroom includes a spacious bathroom and ample closet space. On top of the indoor space, the home boasts three terraces and a rooftop with a pool and kitchen that add up to an extra 3,400 square feet.
Kalanick has a spotty legacy at Uber. He was roundly criticized by the public and employees for his role on President Trump’s Strategy and Policy Forum after publicly opposing some of the President’s policies, and subsequently left the committee. After criticism for his behavior while operating as Chief Executive at Uber, including the failure to acknowledge sexual harassment claims from within the company, lewd behavior on company trips and the public release of a video of Kalanick arguing with and ostensibly bullying an Uber driver while riding as a passenger, Kalanick was forced to step down.
